Shelf Awareness Spotlight: Mrs. March by Virginia Feito

Nashville's Thrills and Chills Book Club recently read Virginia Feito's debut Mrs. March.  

Synopsis: Combining a Hitchcockian sensibility with a sluggish burn, Feito writes a casebook study of neurosis in Mrs. March.  The titular Upper East Sider revels in her husband's George March’s success with his latest novel.  That is until one morning the shopkeeper of her favorite patisserie suggests that the prostitute protagonist is based on Mrs. March herself. In a panic, Mrs. March clutches her ostrich leather pocketbook, mint-colored gloves, and she flees the shop. It's a downward spiral from there...

Noticings: 

• Mrs. March's housekeeper appears to know a lot more than she lets on.  
• Something sinister happened in Mrs. March's past that the reader isn't privy to.  
• Kiki seems to be a voice for Mrs. March in lieu of her own. 
• The mint-colored gloves are symbolic of Mrs. March's contrived persona. 
• Mrs. March would have made a great private detective.  She missed her calling. 

Wonderings: 

• What did Jonathan do at school that got him suspended?
• Why do we never learn Mrs. March's name until the last sentence?
• Why are Mr. and Mrs. March even married?  
• Does Mrs. March try to "save" Sylvia in her quest to solve her murder?
• Does Mrs. March love Jonathan?  To that point, is she capable of love?
